The successful applicant will also hold, for the first term, the position of Convener of the College of Asia Pacific Studies. The appointee will be expected to take up duties on 3 January 2006. The Australian National University is Australia?s premier research institution, with a strong reputation in research and research-led education. The University is seeking an intellectual leader of international distinction in a discipline and with a regional interest relevant to the activities of the School and the College, and who has the capacity to lead a diverse academic enterprise. The Director?s responsibility will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor. Applicants should have experience in research management and the ability to sustain and develop linkages within the School and throughout the University, with other universities and research institutions in Australia and overseas, and with government and industry. They should also have the ability to promote the image of the School, the College and the University, and to attract funds from outside the University. The successful candidate will be offered an appointment as a Professor of the University. The term of office as Director, normally five years with an opportunity to extend, will be fixed by the University in consultation with the person recommended. Remuneration will include superannuation, the use of a fully maintained University vehicle and other benefits.
