The Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS) in Singapore invites applications for an assistant professor for our management of defence technology program. Candidates are expected to be familiar with military technology in general, including various aspects of technology associated with the ongoing “revolution in military affairs,” and how such technology can be managed economically and affordably for use by military forces. Applicants should have a strong background in international relations or strategic studies and should expect to teach courses in these areas. The position involves research, teaching 1-2 courses per year on a trimester system in the Institute’s Masters of Science program, supervising Ph.D. candidates, and a commitment to networking. Contract length is three years and renewable, subject to mutual agreement. Candidate records should demonstrate the potential for excellence in scholarship with a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. All applicants should submit a cover letter that describes your proposed research agenda, a full C.V., three letters of recommendation and a writing sample. Screening of applicants will begin on October 1 and continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive and will depend on qualifications and experience. IDSS is a research and teaching organization located within the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. We confer graduate degrees in international relations, security studies and international political economy. The academic year runs from July-May and the start date for this position is negotiable.
