INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (TENURE TRACK) / CONVERSION (ABD) • Available for the Academic Year: 2006/2007 • Salary is dependent upon academic preparation and professional experience. • Teaching Load is 12 units per semester plus 3 units of non-instructional responsibilities. • Instructional Level: Undergraduate and graduate Specific Position Characteristics: The Political Science Department at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure-track position specializing in International Relations. Teaching responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of International Relations. All faculty are required to teach general education courses in American Government. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate actively as a faculty member in the Graduate Program in International Relations. Other responsibilities include research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as advising students and engaging in service at all levels of the university. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the department, college and university. Qualifications: Academic Preparation: Strong academic training and an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in International Relations are required for appointment to a tenure-track position. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered for a lectureship (temporary position) with the possibility of conversion to tenure track upon completion of the doctorate. Teaching or Other Professional Experience: Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach area studies courses on Latin America, Europe, or former Soviet States in additional to International Relations. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to or potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
