MIT is making two hires. One in security studies and one in methods. Both are open with respect to subfield (at least according to the posted ads; and this seems to be corroborated by who they are brining in). Unlikely that MIT has made an offer in either search since some candidates have not yet come in for their talks.
Well good for Harvard... Any news on schools BESIDES Harvard? I saw an earlier post on Puget Sound and Ottawa, which seemed to indicate that info on their searches might be forthcoming. Any info?
3:43pm, a question to the friend of the person who will interview at Cornell - Cornell supposedly made an offer some time ago, no? Or does that mean offer was rejected and they're having a second round of sorts?
Notre Dame finalized a short-list of three candidates for its senior IR search. two of the three finalists were invited for interviews. (Source: colleague of one of the three finalists)
Southern Illinois University has a job open that we are not going to interview for until next year. Although it has a quarter time appointment in criminal justice, *anyone* in the field of international security would undoubtedly be a good fit.
We've got strong faculty in American, comparative, and public law who publish in high quality journals. Carbondale is a very affordable place to live and, if you like outdoors adventure, we're on the northern tip of the Shawnee National Forrest.
Anyone looking for a good job with a 2-2 load who can teach security issues should consider applying. If you have any questions you can email me at mcclurg[at]siu.edu and I'll be happy to answer them for you.
Kroco interview at Cornell isn't happening anymore-not sure why. [****] accepted at Cornell. Not sure if they are going to make any other offers now that they have [****]. source- emails w/in department
James Madison University (VA) has had three candidates on campus for interviews in the last few weeks. Two (names unknown) were from Wisconson-Madison, and one was the visiting assistant who (most likely) posted the transparent attempt at intimidation here earlier in the search.
We're starting to get a lot of rumors about offers. We often try to track these down and cross-reference those on the wiki, but it is time consuming. Could job candidates who have received offers or departmental faculty at institutions that have made offers *please* contact us directly rather than post anonymously? We promise to maintain your anonymity.
I wanted to let job seekers know that the Politics and Government Department at the University of Puget Sound will likely be doing a search in spring 2008 for a full-time visiting position in international relations for 08-09.
This position will be to fill in for a faculty member who has been promoted to associate dean, which means that the position may have the possibility of renewal for more than one year.
We'll be looking for someone who can offer courses in some of the following areas: Human rights, ethnic conflict, global security, international organization, international law, global environmental politics, or US foreign policy. We would also be interested in international relations courses with a regional focus.
I'll post the job ad once it is official; if you have questions email me at poneil@ups.edu.
Great info on the Puget Sound position. But any info on the IPE position they have out? I know, separate dept. But I've heard bupkis. Ottawa, however, notified those who did not make their short list over the past few days- very kind of them, if you ask me as few schools keep us informed. My guess is that interviews will likely be coming soon.
Re: the just posted above comment on Ottawa (I assume this is in reference to the 6 advertised positions for the new GPSIA). Since I applied and haven't got a rejection notice (is this via e-mail?) perhaps this means I'll be getting a call? If the previous commenter could elaborate please ...
Those not on the short list were notified by e-mail. So if you did not get one presumably you are on the short list. But that does not mean an interview request is coming. I just received the e-mail and I thought I'd share the information. That, and the fact that I got an e-mail says something about the dept given that most of us complain about being left in the dark.
Hope that clarifies it. I'd love some info on Vermont or maybe some SLACs that haven't quite made decisions yet.
Thanks to 10:48 am above (Dec 20) for clarifying the Ottawa situation.
I'd be highly interested to know how many Canadians (job seekers and existing faculty) are actually reading/participating in this IR job blog. Given the extremely limited traffic at the Canadian version of this blog (due no doubt to the very small IR market), we probably have more than a few Canadians here ... show of hands, please :)
I hear Ottawa U (for the 6 GSPIA positions) has started inviting for interviews, but not all shortlisted candidates have been contacted yet. My source (second hand) tells me they might invite more people after the break. Apparently that's what they did last year too...
I suppose it's hard to count anonymous comments, but here's a Canadian reading this blog on a regular basis. Since traffic is so low at the Canadian polisci blog and the two job markets are becoming more and more integrated, I think it's better to list everything here.
"Berkeley has extended offers to [****] and [****]. Source: friend of a friend is a faculty member."
A quick note: we won't be contacting people to confirm rumors until after New Years. We'll update the tally board based on direct emails from candidates/faculty, of course.
Centenary College of Louisiana, recently named one of the "Hottest 25 Schools in America" by Newsweek, will be posting an IR/Comparative line soon. That's one LAC hiring.
Why is it that we STILL don't know which candidates have accepted which offers and what the status is at most places? It seems like last year the board filled up quite fast with news of acceptances and rejections. I'm just wondering if this is because most candidates haven't updated the rumor mill on their status or because despite the plethora of jobs out there, most universities have not successfully filled the slots?
Can we urge people again to check the wiki and to contact us to confirm/deny rumors over there? We should be clearly that, after our last call, a number of people stepped up to the bat and emailed us. We just need to update the big board. That should happen by the end of today.
The wiki is a publicly editable system for political science rumors. Since there is no moderator, anyone can post whatever they want. Thus, it has a number of rumors on it about hiring and offers that we have blocked on the IR Rumor Mill or have second-hand but not primary confirmation of via email. On the downside, it can (and has proven to be) inaccurate. We have, in fact, been able to correct rumors there in the past.
What we're asking is this: if you're named on the wiki as having taken a job or received an offer, please contact us and tell us if the information is true. We do try to email about rumors, but we're not always comprehensive and we've gotten slow as a result of the holiday season.
Is there any movement/info on Puget Sound? There appeared to be someone with some knowledge earlier but no newer posts... Any word on Vermont? Hell, any word on anything that isn't Ivy league?
Hi all: Here is the job opening I mentioned earlier on the site. Email me if you have any questions about the position. As it notes, this is a replacement for a colleague who has moved up to administration, so the position may be extended past the first year. --Patrick

There seems to be large gaps in who is self-listing for interviews/offers. So, what are the pros and cons of putting your name out here and on wiki--for interviews and eventually offers? Is there a diff if you're ABD?
Two cents on 11:22 AM's question: my sense is that it depends on whether the candidate has been forthcoming with all their prospective employers (and any schools at which they haven't yet interviewed) about their options. If the candidate tells school X and Y about each other's offers, then there probably isn't anything to be lost--and only information for the rest of us (and undeniable esteem and prestige, for the lucky candidate) to be gained.

The big board has a rumor that MIT has made an offer, but not all of the 3 candidates listed have had their interviews yet. Can anyone explain?
Agnes Scott is conducting phone interviews.
Who hasn't interviewed at MIT yet?
6:52, which big board is that? the one i'm looking at (updated Dec. 2) does not say MIT has made an offer.
Have Williams or Middlebury made offers, how about UMass?

There is a rumor out (on the Comparative Rumor Mill) that MIT made an offer (the name is also there if you are curious).
There also seems to be confusion about whether this is an IR/SS or and IR/COMP hire and how many hires MIT is making.
Does anyone have more information about that?

Any news on James Madison University (VA) or Rice?
Any news from Harvard?
Does anyone know if Harvard has made an offer yet?
I hear (third hand) that Harvard will not be making an offer
The rumor that Leslie John's accepted an offer from Caltech is false.
Harvard has not contacted the candidates to indicate that they are not making an offer- so I doubt that is the case.
(I assume that they would have the courtesy to call.)
Wishful thinking, maybe. The sooner the year's "hot" ones take jobs, the sooner the rest can get some interviews. :)
On a lighter note, happy holidays (Christmas, Channukah, Kwanzaa, and my favorite: Victory-Fall Semester Day).
What is the status of the Berkeley search?
Any news on the Puget Sound IPE position?
Harvard is definitely not making a junior IR hire.
I've also heard Harvard is not making any IR offers. Apparently there was no consensus.
