Dominick' Wright does not have an interview at UNT this week. Dom came to UNT to give a talk, which is something that happens pretty regularly in political science departments. There is not movement on UNT's job searches as of yet.

sounds like they have aa type.
We've let the last comment through, but keep it clean, folks.
And why, exactly, would you "let the last comment through"? What is the point of having some envious schmuck who did not get an interview vent HIS frustrations in public and imply that (a) the only reason HE did not get invited is because he's not a woman, and (b) the only reason these candidates are interviewing is because they are. If you are going to pretend to be a moderator, you might as well do it right. I am not interested in whatever rationalization the author or others might offer for the 7:00p comment. And, by the way, AA is illegal in California.
Because the comment is ambiguous.
To be blunt: if the comment clearly invoked gender or some other personal characteristic, we would have censored it. But it does not, and we consider discussions that center around whether a school is looking for scholars who use particular methods or study particular topics legitimate.
And while we suspect that it was a comment about gender, we decided to be charitable.
I really thought the commenter was referring to the fact that their research interests are very similar, and they are both Niehaus Fellows at Princeton. I must be naive.
Looks like the Niehaus Center is buzzing with early interviews- Camber, Heather, and Christina.
Jennifer Erickson and Geoffrey Wallace (both Cornell ABD) have interviews at UNT for the human rights position.
A belated request: could people post rumors on the rumors thread from now on?
"To be blunt: if the comment clearly invoked gender or some other personal characteristic, we would have censored it."
It seems the comment did clearly invoke gender. If the posting was just meant to suggest that Davis seems interested in IPE scholars, they would have said that. There is no affirmative action for IPE scholarship. How much clear does the gender reference need to be? It is not uncharitable to remove a posting that is offending readers of this blog, and you should error on the side of caution. If the two candidates mentioned in the posting had been African American, would you have been this "charitable"? Somehow, I think not.
I assumed the "type" referred to their associations with the Niehaus Center at Princeton.
I think the misunderstanding (assuming that's what it is) is due to a typo. The poster obviously meant "have a type." The "aa" is most likely a typo and not a reference to affirmative action....
why not fix the typo?
I agree, the poster must have meant "type of work." Niehaus, similar interests in institutions .... Let's not get paranoid people.
Oh my god! Let this go! For all we know the person was thinking 'type A' personalities; uptight, and whatnot. Delete it or let it go. Now, could someone please remind us of the Wiki link? I saw the request posted earlier and I think if someone knows, some of us looking for jobs might be interested in looking at it.
I personally suspect that the "aa" was not a typo and that this was a sexist comment. However, these candidates do have a lot in common besides gender: Niehaus affiliation, work on institutions, quantitative methods, etc. So I don't think the comment "clearly" invoked gender.
Given that the poster's meaning is ambiguous, maybe we should just let it go?
Check the sidebar. It is under "external links."

Man, the board sucks this year... And I'm not talking about jobs, but confirmations and what not. I know several jobs, and confirmations that are not on there, but I cannot "confirm" as I am still a grad student and its friends who are taking the jobs...
Strangelove: then you have only yourself, and people like yourself, to blame.
If other people used your excuse to not anonymously or "back channel" rumors, we'd have half the rumors you see.
Oregon State has invited candidates and interviews commence in about two weeks.
Strangelove: don't you see that YOU are the missing link this year (or one of them)? Why not post what you know and enrich the information environment (assuming your friends don't mind since they have accepted jobs)?
Let the mods decide whether to get "confirmation" before allowing the post.
Strangelove,
Learn to stop worrying and love the rumors. As our esteemed leader suggested, most of the stuff on here is coming from people exactly like you.

"Any word on whether they have started interviewing for the two Boulder jobs?"
Not yet. Calls may go out late next week, though.
"709: Is UCR going to extend another offer, invite other candidates or cancel the search?"
4 candidates were interviewed originally and the plan is to go to the other 3 next.
10:55, the rumor now circulating is that UCR is not going to hire this year. Is that true? Or is it still going to offer the position to the 2nd of the candidates they interviewed?
So, did Boulder shortlist yet?
11:43, you are correct, UCR will not be extending any additional offers. The search has been canceled.
CU-Boulder has made calls on both of its positions.
