[Department Website][APSA elisting(requires membership)] VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS/ COMPARATIVE POLITICS The Department of International Studies (IS) and Political Science announces a tenure track position at either the assistant or associate level beginning in August 2006, in international relations or comparative politics. Not required but considered an additional asset would be a regional expertise, such as Central Asia, China, the Middle East, or Europe. Evidence of excellent teaching required. PhD preferred. As well as teaching basic courses in either international relations or comparative politics, all faculty develop and teach courses in their specific area of expertise. The teaching load is generally two preparations each semester. The IS major is highly selective and challenging, graduating approximately 30 cadets each year. IS graduates regularly enter top graduate programs in international studies, law, and political science. Many pursue careers in the national security field. The department offers a very collegial and dynamic professional environment. Salary is competitive, with one of the most attractive retirement plans in academia. Research funding and support for conferences is generous. Summer teaching is optional. Some faculty housing is available. VMI is located in historic Lexington, Virginia (pop. 7,500) in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately three hours from Washington, D.C.
