Chair, Department of Political Science Morehouse College invites applications for a full-time, senior faculty member to serve as Chair of its Department of Political Science. The department at present consists of six full-time faculty members. Principal responsibilities as chair include teaching and student advisement; providing leadership for department curriculum development; evaluating faculty and staff performance; appointing and participating in department committees; and providing leadership for the preparation of the department’s strategic plan. Candidates must have doctorates in political science. They should have notable research and publication records, successful track records in higher education, experience in departmental and faculty governance, and have exemplified a strong sense of collegiality with faculty members. The selection process will favor candidates with significant fundraising experience. The department is seeking candidates whose primary substantive teaching area is in International and Comparative politics, and who can teach quantitative methods and formal theory. The department houses three concentrations that lead to the Bachelor of Arts degree: political science, urban studies, and international studies. While each concentration may have a director, the chair serves as the administrative head of the entire unit housing them. He reports directly to the Dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences and ultimately to the Provost. The starting date for this position is August 2006. The salary for the position is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
