Johns Hopkins (not SAIS), George Washington, and Stanford all have Ass't Positions. Looking like a promising year -- let the rat race begin!
the Board has 2 positions listed for the UToronto Peace and Conflict Studies posting, but I didn't see that mentioned in the ad. is that correct? thanks.
That's a mistake. We'll correct it.
Michigan seems to have a botched cross-listing. There is an Assistant job involving global energy policy, that includes IR, and is distinct from the financial markets job.

I haven't seen the posting for a Lecturer position at LSE. Is there really an opening there?
Is there a way the administrator can help us identify the 'most recently advertised' jobs on the table
Check the APSA eJobs site. They have a link that will display all jobs posted in the last two days.
RE: LSE. There was a position there, but it's filled.
Hamilton's visiting China/IPE position is also filled.
I don't see the Naval War College yet, and since we don't always advertise in the right place thought I'd mention that NWC has two searches this fall:

Notes:
1. The most relevant to IR people will be the "Security, Strategy, and Forces" job (see ad).
2. APPLY NOW. Deadline is 11/30/09 but we review as they arrive and sometimes we even interview before the deadlines arrives.
3. NWC values teaching and policy-relevancy as well as pure academic research. We want scholarly pubs, but your letter should also show real interest in teaching mid-career national security professionals in a small seminar setting.
4. Starting salary is around 90,000 for new PhDs

The Hunter College Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in international relations to begin in fall 2010. The appointment is open to any rank; the department prefers candidates with a proven record of scholarly publication. We will consider applicants in any area of international relations who do not duplicate our existing strengths in international organizations and human rights, the IPE of money and finance, and European security. Candidates whose research explores the role of China in international politics are especially encouraged to apply. The department places a high value on both effective teaching and strong scholarship. Hunter College, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is a part of the City University of New York, and has a vibrant and exceptionally diverse student body. In addition to teaching undergraduates at Hunter, many department members are part of the CUNY Graduate Center faculty and participate in the doctoral program. A Ph. D. is required for appointment at a professorial rank; the department prefers completion of the degree by the start of the appointment. For appointment as associate professor, substantial publication and teaching experience are required; for appointment as full professor, evidence of an established professional reputation, a strong and sustained publication record, and substantial teaching experience are required. Salary is commensurate with rank and experience. Hunter College is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Please send cover letter, CV, writing sample, and evidence of teaching effectiveness, and arrange to have confidential references sent, to: Chair, International Relations Search, Department of Political Science, Hunter College, CUNY, 695 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10065. Please direct queries via e-mail to irsearch@hunter.cuny.edu. To assure full consideration, candidates should submit all application materials by 10/15/09.
you are doing it because you are one of the few people who choose to be nice even though they can remain anonymous :)
is there a way that we can subscribe to the changes on the tallyboard, and be alerted when there is a post...my regular RSS feed is working only for the frontpage of IR Rumor mill
Not the way the rumor people are currently operating the tally board.

Any news on William and Mary?
Marquette has made calls for their security position. source: from colleague of called candidate.
Nothing yet from WM. A bit unusual, as they pride themselves on moving quickly on searches.
Shepard has posted this for two years now: I interviewed last year in September. I believe budget was the problem but I'm not sure.
Re. Marquette, does this mean that they've called everyone they plan on flying out?
Northern Illinois has invited four people to interview for its senior position.
Centre has made calls for their position. source: colleague of called candidate.
Why is the Dartmouth job not on the board? Has the search been canceled?
uh, it's NYU Abu Dhabi, not NYU Abu Gharib.
Do we know who Northern Illinois has invited interview for its senior position?
I agree re: disappointing levels of action on here.
On the RIT post with a human security specialization, I can't find this on their eJobs ad. Am I missing something or is this inside info?
What's the story with TAMU? Have they made calls for the IR line?
American has made at least one call about the transnational crime/terrorism position (a recipient).
@8:50--TAMU sent emails to some people regarding interviews.
Yes, TAMU has made calls and interviews are being scheduled.

I posted something this morning on the pre-season thread that has not shown up yet. What's the delay like on getting things cleared and up?
@ 1:19 -- we try to get comments cleared and posted within a few hours, but sometimes it takes a little longer. That said, we did not receive anything on the pre-season thread, so you may have to re-post your comment.
I think the person interviewing at S. Carolina is Courtney Ryals-Conrad and not Justin Conrad.
Any idea what's happening with the Yale search? Is that even an IR job?

Did anyone else apply for the Duke job (Sanford School - Public policy) and get an e-mail saying that your application for the "Health Disparities" position had been received? This seems a bit weird since the announcement didn't mention anything about it being limited to health issues. Can anyone shed some light on this?
scratch the Duke comment re. health disparities - just called them and it was an admin mix-up
you guys are missing the lycoming job...
I got a letter from Long Island University, Brooklyn saying that due to budget constraints, they are no longer seeking to fill the position.
also missing the Reed environmental job.
Yes, just got an e-mail from LIU saying the position was closed...

Has anyone seen an "authoritative" -- very loosely defined (i.e., something in PS-like publications) -- figure on the average number of files received per job listing in IR?
IOW, something that would offer support for the claim that "on average an open position in IR receives umpty-ump applications..."
Thanks.

UC Merced interviewing Verhulst & Ben-Nun-Bloom, (both PhD candidates from SUNY StonyBrook), Enos (UCLA PhD Candidate), and Quiroz Flores (PhD candidate NYU). Source = colleague at Merced.
Updated. We'll try to be better about this in the future.
The board says 'Seton Hall'. Do they have a job out? Or did we confuse that with Seton HILL, which is in PA near Pittsburgh? And what info do we have on that? Gustavus too?
Can confirm that Reed is interviewing (source: a candidate)
Can anyone confirm that Lewis and Clark is interviewing?
Csn confirm that Lewis and Clark is interviewing; a friend of mine had an interview.
Yes, Lewis and Clark is having campus interviews. (source: a candidate)
Does anyone know about the Univ. of Oregon search? Have they made calls?
Colby College is making calls (source: a candidate)
Colby College is scheduling flyouts. (Source: a candidate)
The board says that calls have been made for the GWU Asst/ME position. Can anyone confirm? It is my understanding that calls have been made to the Natl/Int'l Security Policy position, not the ME position.
the position is at Seton HILL in PA, not Seton HALL in NJ.
This is the job which had the sentence that Munger noted:
Background or teaching experience in genocide and/or Non-Western area studies desirable.
It would be helpful if the Board was updated to reflect the consensus comments on the Board and Rumors pages.
@6:03 -- the board is now updated to reflect consensus comments, we believe. If we've missed something, e-mail us and we'll make the correction.
"I second the concern made about the mismatch between the board and the rumor regarding GW: is it the Middle East or Security position that has moved to the interview stage?"
This was a typo -- so many GW positions listed, we put the information in the wrong row of the table. It has now been corrected. The junior Security position, not the junior ME position, is the one for which interviews have (reportedly) been scheduled. If anyone has more definite information, please post in comments, or e-mail us.
Arizona State has made calls.
Calls have been made for the Kansas Middle East position.
Thank you for the info on the Kansas Middle East position. The worst part of being on the job market is holding out hope. I will now cross Kansas off my list.
Any names on the Kansas ME position?
Rob Bosco (UConn) took the Centre College job.
Univ of the Pacific just closed on 12/1 -- do we know what the schedule is there?

Has anyone heard news about the U of the South position? I think they had on-campus interviews last week.
Does anyone know what the status on the UT-Austin positions is? Have they made offers?
Hunter offer is out.
According to its department homepage, Marquette has an accepted offer for its IR-security line.
anyone knows anything about the University of Ottawa Human Rights position? (http://www.socialsciences.uottawa.ca/assets/pdf/postes/api-ech-eng-oct09.pdf)
Why is it not on the board?
Polisci Bluwiki states that as of Dec 9th, the search at U Kansas has been cancelled. Does anyone know whether this refer to the Security Assoc position, the ME Asst position, or both?
To the person who asks "anyone knows anything about the University of Ottawa Human Rights position?". A colleague tells me the department is finalising the shortlist.
Re Kansas: The Assoc position is closed. The ME position is interviewing.
ASU has completed interviews for the IR/security studies asst position. Four finalists were interviewed for the position.

ASU has made an offer to Sarah Zukerman-Daly (MIT) for the IR/security asst position.
Just found out that Eckerd College's middle east position has been filled.
"ASU has made an offer to Sarah Zukerman-Daly (MIT) for the IR/security asst position."
^ also for the American trannational crime slot.
Any news on:
Creighton (IR), November 1 deadline?
RIT (IR, junior line), November 1 deadline?
Naval War College (Decision-making department), November 30 deadline?
Richmond (Jepson School, International Studies and Leadership Job), November 15 deadline?
UMass, Dartmouth (Comparative / IR Job), December 1 deadline?
Bridgewater State College (IR), rolling deadline?
Any news of any of these searches?
I heard that Creighton might have the cancel the search (for a second year) owing to budget issues? Can anyone confirm?
Anything, please!?!?
Can we at least get some of these that are not on the board up?
UC Merced has an offer out to Enos.
Greenhill (UW) accepted the Dartmouth IR offer.
Tariq Thachil interviewed at Toronto for a Comparative position, not IR.
Enos declined/withdrew from consideration for the UC Merced position.
Hopkins made an offer to Nicolas Jabko.
I'm pretty sure the Rochester job has been filled as they are letting people know they didn't get the job. There is a visiting position availible at U of R.
The wiki reports that Lacina (Stanford ABD) accepted the Rochester job.
We have confirmed that Dr. Thachil interviewed at Toronto for a Comparative Politics job, so we're removing his name from the big board.
The following interviewed at Hunter:
O'Neill (Wash U ABD), Shirkey (SJFC AP), Zang (Arkansas AP).
Offer to Zang.
So what's the story on the Toronto IR jobs? Have they moved on these yet?
My understanding is Toronto has yet to do anything on the IR jobs, but that is third hand information at best so I'm not sure what that's worth.
Hunter information is incorrect. First, it's "Zeng" not "Zang." Second, offer is to Shirkey and has been accepted.
What happened to the CIDE (Mexico) IR position? It is not in the board anymore. The deadline was 10/16. Is the position closed?
Any (specific) news about Creighton, Georgia State, or Alabama?
Thanks!
I emailed the chair of the committee to check on the status of the Creighton search and he responded that the university has frozen funding for the position and that he didn't know when or if the search would be back on.
I have no info on CIDE-IR, but CIDE-Poli Sci has already interviewed and made offers.
Center for Global Affairs at NYU has extended an offer in its IPE search (source: a faculty member), but now are opening an search for an additional expansion position at the Asst/Assoc level, completely open as to particular area of expertise.
Anyone have more details about the GW/Elliott jobs?

Zukerman-Daly (MIT) has accepted offer from American University and declined offer from Arizona State. The ASU offer now goes to Reed Wood (U of North Carolina) (source: dept e-mail announcement)
Here's a job ad I didn't see mentioned on this site. The deadline to begin consideration is soon, but I hear that they'll accept applications after the date.

University of Alabama began interviews for its IR position this week.

Trinity College Dublin made offer to Stephen Weymouth. Offer was declined.
Why isn't Univ. of Alabama on the board? Candidate visits have been completed.
Grand Valley State has filled their position.
UC Merced has 2 new candidates. One was from UIowa, the other is from FSU.
Washington State-Vancouver has completed campus interviews.
IBEI has made shortlist for phone interviews.
Not a rumor. Just a quick rant. I don't have a job. Have no idea what I'm going to be doing next year. And I'm so stressed I could barf. Thanks for reading.
Keep strong, 11:18. Hope good news is around the corner for you!
Moravian's search is stopped due to budgetary reasons. Gustavus hired someone and so did Willamette for Latin America.
I know for sure that two southern R1's will be posting job ads within a couple of week. The market is not dead yet, just depends on when the dept gets the money from the Dean.
The below announcement should be posted on APSA e-jobs as soon as they dig out from under the snow.

I received rejection letter from the Jepson School. They said they had hired someone.
I have accepted the WSU-Vancouver position. I would prefer to remain anonymous until certain parties can be informed.
What gives? You still don't have Bama on the board, and several people have asked about it. BTW: their offer is out.
@5:41 -- Well, besides the fact that we're all volunteers here, there's the intriguing problem that "Bama" (presumably you mean the University of Alabama position that a couple of people have indeed asked about?) doesn't seem to have a position listing on the APSA e-jobs site; nor have we been able to locate the listing on the University of Alabama's site. If someone would kindly forward a copy of the position description to our gmail address, we'll be happy to get it listed on the board.
Can we get St. John Fisher College and Valparaiso on the board?

@ 7:06: You ask, we provide.
If there are other positions that are not on the board, please do let us know and we'll get them listed as soon as we can.
Eastern Michigan University (IPE) position is also missing. They have completed their campus interviews.
BU has finished its interviews and made two offers-for Europe/IR and South Asia/IR.
Villanova has an IR/Comparative position with a specialty in Russian foreign policy.
The BU/Europe offer was accepted by Schilde (UPenn ABD).

Air War College made an offer, which was accepted. (Overheard at ISA)
Can we get SUNY - Oneonta up? Thanks!
Daniel Stockemer (UConn ABD) took the Ottawa Job.
UC Merced - offer out to Ryalls-Conrad (FSU)
Prescott College had a position -- any word on this?
I don't know what job Daniel Stockemer (UConn ABD) took at uOttawa, but it is not the human rights position which remains open (i.e., the search committee is stil deliberating)
Toronto made one IR hire. Son of former U of Toronto president.
Stockemer took the methods position not HR.
Elon is once again hiring for its IR position, though for this time for a visiting position. That's at least six different hiring cycles for this position in the past 10 years.
BU made an offer to a Harvard PhD/post-doc for the South Asia/IR position and it was accepted.
St. John Fisher has called folks and made campus invites.
Any news on the Yonsei University Wonju Campus job? I was really hoping for this one ...
FYI - I see the board didn't list the position in the Politics of the Global South at the University of Victoria (BC) that was listed in December. I heard they are are interviewing already.
Shepherd University. Job offered to and accepted by Jacob Stump
I heard that all 3 candidates for the G-tech job were from Belfer (non EU position)
I heard that SUNY Oneonta was meeting Friday (3.19). Has anyone gotten a call for a phone interview? This could be a great job for someone.
Got a final rejection letter from U Toronto yesterday, so I presume that the end of the search process is no longer merely a rumour, but a certainty
PSJR reports that GWU job went to Eric Grynaviski, PhD Ohio State
I have accepted the job at WSU-Vancouver and resigned from the University of Utah effective July 1, 2010.
Pittsburgh has made an offer in the IPE/IO search.
^^^ What position was this for (at U of T)?
I'm pretty sure Baldwin was offered a position of U of Toronto that she declined. Instead she took a position at University of Georgia.
So has Toronto officially declined to hire this year on the other two positions, or is the search still on-going? If the former, are they likely to advertise these lines again next year?
