1. all comments are moderated; Also, remember that we sometimes inadvertently violate our own policies, that we appreciate emailed rumors, that we will always keep our sources confidential, and that threatening to sue us only makes us mad.
2. we seek confirmation before posting rumors concerning lateral moves;
3. source your rumors, e.g., "I overheard someone in the hall saying that his friend heard from another fellow at Belfer that her friend at Big State University knows the administrative assistant at Small Liberal Arts College who said that they were interviewing...." or, more likely, "source: the candidate";
4. keep it clean.
At the risk of repetition, we note that no one has a "legal right" to keep information about his or her interview a secret. If you're tempted to claim otherwise, consider a simple fact: if we find out about your interview, it usually means it already isn't much of a secret.
We often try to accommodate reasonable requests to hold information. We believe, moreover, that our attempts to operate in good faith account for the high-quality information we receive. We are very good about honoring requests to hold rumors by people who send us those rumors.
But do not assume that our team is made up entirely of powerless first-year graduate students (although it might be... we're not saying) and that making absurd threats against us won't engender blowback. We know some people who are very good with voodoo dolls.

Yevgeniy Kirpichevsky (Harvard)
Seo-Hyun Park (Cornell)
"why is the new school job listed as N/A for outcome? typo, i assume."
That's not the new school, that's Michigan State and it's because their search was cancelled.
I heard from a friend at Michigan that Johannes Urpelainen has a talk at Columbia.
Any news on Northern Illinois IR search? Thanks.
Boston College - V. Gundlupet (Chicago PhD/ Princeton Postdoc) is interviewing. I dont know about others.
Does anyone know the final word on the BU search? Is it on or off?
According to wiki Boston C scheduled interviews - is it confirmed?
According to the wiki, UC Riverside has scheduled interviews. Is that correct?
University of Richmond invited people for on campus interviews for the Security Studies position today. No idea about the other position.
@ 5:03 AM - both MSU and New School had N/A at one point. But the RumorMill admins moved with lightning speed.
Who got the Richmond security position interviews?
There's a rumor here about the North Texas Middle East search, but it hasn't been confirmed. What gives?
RE: There's a rumor here about the North Texas Middle East search, but it hasn't been confirmed. What gives?
So what's the rumor? Can't expect to get if you are unwilling to give
Chicago has called 2 junior people for their IR job.
Ron Krebs has withdrawn from the search at Georgetown.
Can someone confirm that Hafner-Burton and Mike Ward are interviewing at Duke? Which lines are these for?
Received the following email today:
"We want again to thank you for applying for our position in International Relations. This Department added four new faculty last year, and our goal was to hire five more this year. Instead, I regret to inform you, the recent global/national economic crisis has severely impacted our state and University budgets, and the College of Arts and Sciences within which we operate has, as a result, suspended all previously authorized hiring for this academic year. This was a step taken only after careful deliberation, and with great reluctance. The Department's faculty members are sorry for the time and effort you have put into applying.
We look forward to navigating through this difficult time and reopening these searches in the future.
Sincerely,
Dan Sabia, Department Chair
Political Science Department
University of South Carolina"
The Wiki has Puget Sound doing phone interviews. Anyone confirm that? Is it the Enviro job or the IPE one they re-ran this year?
Has University of Northern Iowa offered a job to anyone?
confirm UPS phone interviews are for enviro
Princeton has made calls.
1. Is there still no progress on the MIT security search? Its been quite awhile now. 2. Is there still a U.S. foreign policy/national security search at American? If so, what's the progress there? 3. Any news on the Smith U.S. foreign policy/national security position? 4. What about the Northern Arizona IR/Security search? Still on? Any movement?
I, too, would be very curious about any one of those as well. Perhaps a search committee member could represent here, anonymously throw a bone and give a status update? couldn't hurt, right, fellas?
Re: 2:06 pm. Did Ron Krebs leave a post about Ron Krebs? I don't get it. Somebody explain to me the relevance of Ron Krebs withdrawing himself from the Georgetown search... please.
Any names or confirmation for Princeton? I know they just started looking at files this week- so calls yesterday seem really fast.
What is the week long silence? Nobody has any news about anything?
"Abdul-Jabbar" from UCLA interviewing at Boston College? Ha. Is this for real, or is someone pulling a fast one on the wiki?
It is a joke, because the WIKI also has W. Chamberlain interviewing at Chicago. Personally, I do not find it funny...
@ 12:25pm Nov 4
Northern Iowa hasn't even finished bringing interviewees out yet, so no, probably no job offers yet.
Ward and Hafner-Burton are both interviewing at Duke (source: departmental email) - all I know is that they are being brought in as IR candidates.
It is a little funny. But what is hilarious is that no one has picked it up yet. Freaking Nerds.... gotta love it.
Thanks on the Puget Sound info. I think the Northern Iowa job has one more interview. There was one scheduled for early November but I don't know if it was this week or next.
11:59: note that you won't find the professional athletes on our rumor board.
Has anyone heard anything from Stanford yet?
Northern Iowa has at least one more person coming in and it won't be for about two weeks.
MIT has made calls for interviews (source: colleague of one of the candidates)
Any idea if Colgate's SC has met, plans to meet, etc?
Can we get some names of those candidates for the MIT security search as confirmation?
names for MIT wouldn't hurt, and it would only help whittle away at some of the crap that's been getting on this site.
Keren Yarhi - Milo (UPENN) has interviews at Princeton and MIT. (source - graduate student at Penn)
American University IR/Global Environmental Politics talks have been scheduled:
Ghazala Shababuddin,
Graem Auld,
Sikina Jinnah.
Source: email to graduate students
Bernd Beber (ABD, Columbia) has a talk at UCSD this week.
Source: department email.
In addition to the cancelled USC position, the Univ of Miami (Ohio) has also cancelled theirs (source: friend who is a faculty member there). I've also heard rumors about other cancelled or postponed positions, or about to be. I've contacted some of my potential employers and most have said things are fine for now.
My guess is the present crisis will impact more on the 2nd round of ads that usually start to come out between now and early February.
Anyone else on this subject?
Ely Ratner (Berkeley) has an interview at Georgetown. Source: colleague at Georgetown.
Yeah, don't ask if the job is still open. Makes you look desperate and its not healthy for candidates to be keeping tabs of jobs and which ones you didn't get. If you get an interview great, if don't, no hard feelings, move on.
Michael Glosny (MIT) is giving a talk at Georgetown.
Curious if anyone has heard anything about a few small schools:
Suffolk
Loras
Lycoming
Valparaiso
Just wondering if I should definitely cross them off my list.
Any information about American U International Peace and Conflict Resolution search?
Loras is conducting phone interviews this week.
FYI, UC-riverside hasn't scheduled interviews yet. Rumor has it that they are going to invite TT or tenured folks, no ABDs.
Hey Moderator: How 'bout a new rumors thread so that we do not have to scroll between pages?
I am confused. Only a little more than 1/3 of the places I applied to seem to have scheduled interviews (according to the blog, at least). Does it mean that the other haven't called anyone, or just that the blog is missing that many entries?
Suffolk is having interviews this week. Source: I am one of the candidates.
My bet is it is because the blog hasn't been updated or because the school doesn't have people who post.
First, is there still an American University search for U.S. Foreign Policy/National Security (this position is not on the wiki list and has not been discussed here)? Second, does anyone have information about the following searches: Smith (foreign policy/security), Stanford (IR), UC Merced, Baylor (National Security), Northern Arizona, Washington Seattle (is this search still open), Memphis (Security), British Columbia (Security), Colgate. Is it that the search process is proceeding slowly this year or that this blog (and the wiki) are simply not accurate reflections of the state of things?
Ely Ratner, not Eli Ratner is interviewing at Gtown. See www.elyratner.com
Gee... could Ely Ratner be behind that posting? :)
Really, folks, let's not take ourselves quite so seriously. It's a rumor blog.
Jason Lyall, Keren Yarhi, and Vipin Narang are interviewing at MIT (source: MIT graduate student)
What? No comments in a week? Anyone have any info on the IR/Africa position at Villanova? Cancelled or just plodding along? Or, hey, just entertain me with some rumours, any rumours. Could be fun.
Rumor has it that William & Mary re-hired Steve Shellman.
Villanova is listed as under a hiring freeze on the wiki. Not sure if it's true. Anyone confirm? Two rumours means true, right?
Just got an e-mail from Simon Fraser indicating that they were having budget issues but that these are now solved. The problem caused a delay, though, and a shortlist may not be ready until January. Does anyone care? Well that's all I got.
