this mill is as good as the rumors people post. which means either searches are proceeding slowly this year, or people are not disclosing. either way, it will all be over soon. fall where the chips may...
I just received a letter from Northern Illinois University, the relevant portion of which runs: "the assistant professor search for which you applied has been closed and a new faculty search for an open rank position has commenced". The letter makes it clear that they prefer a senior candidate.
addendum to just posted (I hadn't read to the bottom of the letter yet): If you applied for the assistant professor position at Northern Illinois, and still want to be considered for the open rank search (they haven't ruled out hiring at the assistant level), then you can be. So don't panic. But chances just got dramatically lower.
Fewer jobs. If you look at last year, there were a LOT of gaps in rumors. The effect of those gaps are magnified when there's less to report on period.
We have been less aggressive about emailing scholars at interviewing institutions, as that was time consuming and more often unproductive than not.
But the wiki this year is missing many IR jobs that were posted on APSA. So this year's wiki isn't very representative of the actual number of job openings.
10:04, I KNOW that last year the wiki was not rep either. So, just ballpark figures for both, but still a daunting dropoff, no matter how you look at it. Plus, we are all seeing this as at least a 2+ yr trend, so you add to the equation, many outside academia or 2-4 yr asst profs realize that this is a window of op to transition, adding more quality to the overall pool, and this is a 'perfect storm' working against all of us, but particularly PhD Candidates outside the top 12 (or 15) institutions.
I couldn't quite follow that last post. In particular, if the job market is so bad, why would this constitute any type of "window of opportunity" for junior faculty to move? If anything, junior faculty should be hunkering down where they are and praying they get tenure.
Maybe move this to "discussion"...but since there's few rumors...12:56 I know quite a few asst profs who would like to make the move now (half way to tenure), and are trying as this mkt probably won't get better for at least 2, probably 4, years. To my knowledge, the logic is that it's easier to make this transition prior to tenure (otherwise, other variables involved including higher pay), but maybe others more informed could comment. Many thus see this as the beginning of this downturn, and are trying to seize upon ANY opportunity to transition now (worst case, they still have a job). If the mkt was like last yr, there wouldn't be the pressure to keep dropping your eggs in every basket possible. Obviously, those at mid to top R1s may be better served strategically by doing as you suggested (staying and focus on tenure).
Valpo did not call me but did email a reply to my query (in part): "We have been overwhelmed by the number and quality of applicants -- well over 100. We have narrowed the group down to a smaller number and you are still being seriously considered."
I got a rejection from Valpo saying that they'd narrowed it down to a long short list of about 10, which I was on, but that they'd invited other people on that list out to interview, and would likely offer the job to one of those people, but thanks for my interest and my good application ...
The Smith position (foreign policy, I presume) is listed on the wiki interviews section without any candidate names. Does anyone know if they contacted people for campus interviews?
Will positions be more plentiful after the Obama administration plucks the dozen or so high profile (plus another 30 or so not high profile) academics from the filed? Did positions open up after Krasner, Christensen, Friedburg, Cha, and the host of others who left to work for Bush?
Monteiro has a somewhat unconventional website, but his training looks legit. Let's not use the world "joke" in reference to job candidates in a public yet anonymous forum, OK?
7:54PM here. My apologies. I did not get the website, so I missed the fact that he is an IR grad student. I am sometimes slow. To the moderator: feel free to edit out my previous post.
can you people please weigh in on whether it is NOW safe to assume that anyone who was ever going to be called off of a short list has by now already been contacted? not complaining, just need to try to get motivated to pursue the other options for next year.
of course one can always keep one's hopes up, past christmas, new year's, and well into the spring when rejection letters will start to trickle in, but when is it actually reasonable to assume this is over if one still has not been contacted??
Last year I had one phone interview in October and then nothing else until January. In January, I received a campus invite from the same place I had the phone interview (in Oct.). From Jan-March I had 5 invites for on campus interviews for tenure-track positions. At least two of these had deadlines in October.
well, if you are interested/have applied to policy programs (SIPA, NYU, U of Washington, etc.), then don't give up yet. i don't think these places have made calls yet. correct me if i am wrong.
Based on last year's market, I'd have to agree that it is not time to give up hope yet. I had a good number of calls for interviews or to gauge if I was still on the market in December and January after hearing very little in October & November. I even had a few schools contact me in February.
"The dean of Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences has called for an immediate freeze on staff hiring and strongly encouraged department heads to consider canceling faculty searches."
I have no information about whether Harvard is canceling its search or not, but that article pertains to staff hiring. The part about faculty is recommendation to consider if the search is really important or not. And what department is going to admit that its search is not important (and Harvard does need people in IR at the junior level)?
According to the William & Mary website, Shellman is Director of the Violent Intranational Political Conflict & Terrorism (VIPCAT) there but does not appear to be a member of the Department of Government faculty. So it should not affect the department's hiring activities.
The University of Washington (Seattle) Jackson School has cancelled their search citing budgetary problems (source: email from Jackson School). University of Oklahoma has invited people out for interviews (source: friend of a candidate who was invited).
Any news on Northern Iowa? They had two positions advertised, and the only interviewee listed was Bryan Early, who is confirmed to have taken a job at SUNY-Albany.
An earlier thread listed a second interviewee at N. Iowa - Laura Janik (UConn). I don't know if that was true or not, because it never appeared on the tally board.
The question remains, I suppose, though - two interviewees, two positions - one interviewee has already taken a job. I guess it is likely they interviewed someone else as well. Have they made any offers? I'm just trying to gauge if there will be a second round ...
Heard from colleagues at Duke that the other IR interviewees there were Idean Saleyhan and Oeindrila Dube. Does anyone know whether the people posted as interviewing at Columbia were there for the PolSci departmental job or for the SIPA job?
The Department of International Relations and European Union at Izmir University of Economics is looking for an assistant professor of international relations who are working on Turkish foreign policy or international political economy and an assistant professor of comparative politics who are working on Turkish politics starting from September 1, 2009. The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory courses in international relations or in comparative politics as well as courses in his/her area of expertise. The candidates should have a PhD by September 1, 2009.
The Izmir University of Economics ( http://www.iue.edu.tr ) is the first foundation university in Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey with a population over three million and began to accept undergraduate students in 2001. The medium of instruction is English. The Department of International Relations and European Union has a dynamic and young faculty with a wide variety of research interests. The Department also offers a MA degree in European Studies. IUE offers a competitive salary with additional compensation for research publications and private health insurance.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter, complete CV with publication list, and a writing sample via email to Assoc. Prof. Filiz Baskan (filiz.baskan@ieu.edu.tr) Three references should also be send via postal mail to: Assoc. Prof. Filiz Baskan, Chair, Department of International Relations and EU, Izmir University of Economics, Sakarya Cad. No:156, Balcova, Izmir, 35330, Turkey. Izmir University of Economics is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or disability. The deadline for application submissions is February 15, 2009.
Any news on MIT? I heard they had two searches, a general IR search and then a methods/partially IR search. Who are they bringing out for the methods/IR line?
University of Colorado at Boulder has two IR openings: One at the junior level and the other (split with International Affairs) at the associate level.
Other people Princeton is interviewing include: Seo-Hyun Park (Cornell PhD Candidate), Zeynup Batagil (Chicago PhD Candidate) and Keren Yarhi-Milo (UPenn PhD Candidate).
For anyone who applied to Dalhousie in Canada, I received an email a while back which indicated that they would contact their short-list by mid-November. So those of us who haven't heard anything by now can probably cross them off. Also got an email from Valparaiso saying that all job searches had been temporarily canceled until their budget situation was cleared up. They should resume mid-January.
"Of the 50 faculty searches underway, only 15 of the most essential will continue, said Bob Mitchell, spokesman for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences...."
In its IR search (not the methods search), MIT has made a decision and informed its candidate. I will leave it up to that candidate to reveal his or her identity if he or she chooses.
Just got an e-mail that Minnesota Twin Cities has canceled its IR search. Also got an e-mail that NYU has made an offer (or offers). Also an e-mail that Quinnipiac has "suspended action" on its two lines until the budget situation is clearer (same situation as Valpo). Super times.
Yale has decided to make 6 offers at the junior level. The ones related to IR are Jens Hainmueller (Harvard, ABD), Jason Lyall (Princeton, Asst. Prof.), and Nuno Monteiro (Chicago, ABD).
Yale is making one offer in comparative to Eleanor Powell (Harvard, ABD). The two remaining offers are in American politics (Samuel DeCanio, Ohio State ABD) and political philosophy (Helene Landemore; Harvard PhD, Brown/MIT postdoc). In case anyone is interested, you can listen to some of the job talks at this site: http://pantheon.yale.edu/~th252/jobtalks.htm (a few were for some reason only partially recorded).
That is bad information about Harvard. See yesterday's Boston Globe:
"Department heads and professors have put in hundreds of hours of work for faculty searches - combing resumes, preparing reports to the deans, negotiating, and persuading colleagues of individuals' merits - only to see the positions disappear.
"To see all of this work, if not gone to waste, not coming to fruition in any foreseeable future is terribly frustrating," said Nancy Rosenblum, chairwoman of the government department, which had been slated to hire four professors."
"The 720-member Faculty of Arts and Sciences was once able to pick off the brightest doctoral students from universities around the world without thinking twice. But now, Harvard's largest academic body, which grew by 13 percent in the last five years, will only commit to filling 15 of its 50 tenure-track openings for next year - strangling the core mission of the university and sending an insidious message across academia."
Maybe the Govt dept has a claim on 1 or more of those 15 slots?
1:56pm listen to 3:51pm. As a student in the Harvard gov department I can tell you that faculty glance at (if not obsessively read) this rumor mill. And would probably correct false hopes...
Okay, everyone- it's pretty darn clear that Harvard is NOT hiring. Even if it were hiring, how many people really give a crap? That's one or two highly competitive jobs, open mostly to advanced, superstar assistants. If you're in that camp, you should have been hoping to get one of the gazillion jobs at Yale, where you can spend 9 years on the tenure track.
How about some new rumors about the other open or filled positions out there?
On Harvard, could people please calm down. It is known that Jason Lyall got an offer from Harvard. It is known that Harvard will not be making other IR offers. It is not known whether they pulled an offer that they already made.
Yale will make two more IR offers, one to Bernd Beber (Columbia, ABD) and one to Alexandre Debs (Rochester, Asst. Prof.).
Also, for future job seekers, even though no one knows with certainty what the situation will be like next year, the following statement by Yale's President that was sent around on Tue via e-mail might be of interest: "[W]e will continue to recruit faculty. Authorized searches in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences will proceed, and the deans in each of the professional schools will work with the Provost to strengthen their faculties. We do not want to lose the momentum of recent years, and we believe that it will be to Yale’s long-run advantage to continue to recruit outstanding and diverse faculty. This said, we will need to be judicious in authorizing new positions and filling vacancies, and departments will have to make a strong case for searches that are not yet authorized."
UCSD offers must have been out a while ago. Either that, or Dara Kay Cohen did not interview there. Coz she is listed as having accepted a position at U.Minnesota (Humphreys)
Eastern Connecticut State University has recently advertised a public law position, with specialization open, including to candidates with teaching and research interests in environmental law and international law. Please view listing # 14494 on APSA E-Jobs if interested.
Did Lewis and Clark have an opening in there Intl Affairs dept? I could swear they did- and I would have applied- but I can't find anything in my pile of job ads I applied to. Any word if there is a job?
Lewis & clark: Developing Areas: http://www.lclark.edu/dept/hr/fjob_develop.html Closed 09/15, and I've heard no word on hire as yet. I have heard rumor (from last years' search) that there was disagreement on the committee, thus they made a 1 year Visiting hire. So one may presume there is an inside candidate (for good or ill).
I heard about the visiting position last year and remember a discussion on the benefits of a visiting position for an eventual tenure position (I think the debate ended 50/50 on that). Maybe something will turn up.
The Department of Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2009, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should have International Relations as their main field of concentration, with a specific focus on globalization and public policy and/or global governance. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in political science (completed or near completion).

Applicants should also arrange to have three confidential letters of reference sent directly to the Chair. We thank all respondents in advance for their interest in Wilfrid Laurier University . Please note only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

@ 12:23 - the Jackson School canceled its search a while back. Also: just got an e-mail from Arizona State saying that they (Political Science) will not be making any tenure track hires this year due to budget shortfalls.
I think it's Washington State at Vancouver not University of Washington. Various sites indicate an offer but who really knows? Any word on Oregon State? Deadline was Dec 15th, I believe. Also, Willamette? Forgive me if I misspelled it.
Anyone know why Lewis and Clark re-advertised it's developing areas position (in Intl Affairs, not poli sci dept) when it had already had an ad out in the fall? Anyone think that's a bad sign for anyone who previously applied?
In re: Lewis & Clark, I don't have any inside information but my sense is that this means they are re-opening the search and would at least like to allow for more files to hit the pool. Given the general state of the job market, they can expect a lot more high quality applicants at this point--not that they didn't have high-quality applicants to begin with!
I wasn't sure if the earlier comment on the offer was for Poli Sci or Intl Affairs- Much like the Puget sound info doesn't differentiate between the poli sci job and the separate IPE job. Either way, I figured the L&C thing was a budget issue. But who knows? If they're hoping for a bigger pool then that would mean the earlier applicants didn't make the cut in my mind.
what is happening at U of Toronto? According to the board, one person seems to have rejected an offer and another person seems to have accepted elsewhere.
Anyone else notice today's new job posting on APSA for Asst. Prof position at Boston U. and how it conspicuously omits "tenure-track" but does not specify that it is visiting-even though it obviously is or they would say it is TT. I hate when universities troll like that. It seems deliberately deceptive.

I think I posted this in the wrong place before...

The Department of International Relations at Boston University invites applications for a position at the rank of assistant professor from International Relations specialists able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international negotiation. Substantive area of expertise is open and may include conflict resolution, trade, finance, and the environment, among others. Successful candidates will be active research scholars who are committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Publications and teaching experience required. Ph.D. must be completed by the time of appointment. The salary will be commensurate with record and experience. Please submit CV, graduate transcripts, samples of written work, and three current letters of recommendation to: Chairman, Negotiation Search Committee, Department of International Relations, Boston University, 152 Bay State Road, Boston, MA 02215. For full consideration, applications must be received no later than February 15, 2009. Boston University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
To !:15 on 1/23...where is the evidence in the job posting that this BU asst. prof job is Tenure Track?? Would love to know if you have confirmation that it is a tenure track posting or if you are just assuming it is b/c the language in the ad itself does not mention anything about tenure track.
RE Oregon State, I was curious if the interview rumour was true (it's listed as R on the Tally Board last I checked). If it is then if an offer has been extended that would be interesting information as well.

Northern Iowa interviewed six or seven people - no idea whether they've made an offer yet.
Any word on the rest of the folks interviewing at Riverside?

Any news on MIT? I heard they had two searches, a general IR search and then a methods/partially IR search. Who are they bringing out for the methods/IR line?
University of Colorado at Boulder has two IR openings: One at the junior level and the other (split with International Affairs) at the associate level.
Other people Princeton is interviewing include: Seo-Hyun Park (Cornell PhD Candidate), Zeynup Batagil (Chicago PhD Candidate) and Keren Yarhi-Milo (UPenn PhD Candidate).
Phil Potter already interviewed at Princeton (source: Princeton PhD student)
MIT's made a methods offer. Haven't heard about the IR search.
University of Oklahoma is bringing out Lindsay Cohn (Duke PhD) (source: heard from Oklahoma faculty)
Northern Iowa made an offer (source: I'm a friend of the candidate)
offer extended for the Memphis position.
MIT - IR still interviewing
Who got the Methods offer at MIT?
MIT interviews are all over. Methods offer is made and is public. Security decision has been made, but is not public.
Faculty committee hasn't met yet on the IR search at MIT.
Has Georgetown made any offers yet?
"Does anyone know whether the people posted as interviewing at Columbia were there for the PolSci departmental job or for the SIPA job?"
The ones in the big board (& wiki) are only for the political science department search. Don't know about the SIPA search.
How could MIT have made a decision if they have not met?
Any news on James Madison?
Any interviews scheduled for UT Dallas?
For anyone who applied to Dalhousie in Canada, I received an email a while back which indicated that they would contact their short-list by mid-November. So those of us who haven't heard anything by now can probably cross them off.
Also got an email from Valparaiso saying that all job searches had been temporarily canceled until their budget situation was cleared up. They should resume mid-January.
UT Dallas has scheduled interviews.
Offer out to Rice candidate a long time ago, not a person listed on board or blogs. Current asst somewhere up cold.
Any news about American University's conflict position? A recent email from the dpt suggests the search is still open. Interviews? Calls?
At least some of the interviews of American University's conflict resolution position already took place.
Harvard curtails faculty positions
http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2008/12/10/harvard_curtails_tenure_searches/
"Of the 50 faculty searches underway, only 15 of the most essential will continue, said Bob Mitchell, spokesman for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences...."
So, who got the Harvard IR offer?
Harvard voted to make more than one offer. However, they are not going to be able to hire this year due to the hiring freeze.
So.... yeah.
MIT IR decision, which was made early in the week, is now public
On the Harvard rumor: Are you sure they won't be able to hire at all, or are they going to cut from two to one hire?
Are you talking about the MIT methods job or the security job? There has been a lot of confusion.
MIT decision is now public? public where? Could you be a little less cryptic and let us know where to search for this public information?
Harvard: not hiring at all.
Can we get some indication of the source for the Harvard post?
In its IR search (not the methods search), MIT has made a decision and informed its candidate. I will leave it up to that candidate to reveal his or her identity if he or she chooses.
Source: hallway chatter at MIT.
Does anyone know who got the other Yale offers? Did they make any comparative offers?
Yale is making one offer in comparative to Eleanor Powell (Harvard, ABD). The two remaining offers are in American politics (Samuel DeCanio, Ohio State ABD) and political philosophy (Helene Landemore; Harvard PhD, Brown/MIT postdoc). In case anyone is interested, you can listen to some of the job talks at this site: http://pantheon.yale.edu/~th252/jobtalks.htm (a few were for some reason only partially recorded).
Harvard IS still hiring this year; up to three lines were given to the Govt Dept by the Deans because of "critical needs."
Lyall has one of these offers.
Thus: Harvard is not hiring.
^ From the same article:
"The 720-member Faculty of Arts and Sciences was once able to pick off the brightest doctoral students from universities around the world without thinking twice. But now, Harvard's largest academic body, which grew by 13 percent in the last five years, will only commit to filling 15 of its 50 tenure-track openings for next year - strangling the core mission of the university and sending an insidious message across academia."
Maybe the Govt dept has a claim on 1 or more of those 15 slots?
No. For the last time: the government department is not hiring. Stop spreading false rumors.
Any news about UCSD's multiple lines? I heard they made decisions last week. Is that true?
Any word on Penn State Altoona or Western Carolina? I know it is the break so maybe nothing is happening until January.
On Harvard, could people please calm down. It is known that Jason Lyall got an offer from Harvard. It is known that Harvard will not be making other IR offers. It is not known whether they pulled an offer that they already made.
FYI: Eleanor Powell is an American politics candidate, not a comparative candidate.
Dara Kay Cohen was also voted an offer at Harvard, before the hiring freeze. Source: classmate.
Does that mean Cohen has an offer or that the offer got dashed in the freeze?
The only Harvard offer that the Dept voted was Lyall's.
Cohen was voted an offer. You can ask anyone on the Harvard faculty. The line was frozen, however, before the paper offer came through.
We have a very high degree of confidence that 5:26 is correct re: Dara Cohen and Harvard. Let this discussion end here :-).
Laura Janik accepted a position at the University of Northern Iowa
Re: 12:44
Yay! We're all guaranteed faculty positions at Yale! Horray!
The tally board for U.Chicago lists a 'Jake Lyall' as having an offer. This person seems to avoided Google's scrutinty.
Are we talking abt Jason Lyall?
UCSD offers out, both department and IRPS.
It's the same *Jason* Lyall. He has offers at Chicago, NYU, Yale, and Harvard.
This makes 5 IR offers at Yale this year. Anyone know what is going on?
UCSD offers must have been out a while ago. Either that, or Dara Kay Cohen did not interview there. Coz she is listed as having accepted a position at U.Minnesota (Humphreys)
re: UCSD. Offers went out about two weeks ago for the IR/PS positions. Cohen did interview there.
Re: UCSD, correct that offers out a while ago. Two to people currently at Princeton.
Two to people currently at Princeton... that means offers went to Hafner-Burton and Schneider. Congrats ladies!
Western Carolina did phone interviews earlier this month.
Oxford have advertised a junior (permanent) position in "Quantative IR".
Columbia/SIPA has made an offer.
Eastern Connecticut State University has recently advertised a public law position, with specialization open, including to candidates with teaching and research interests in environmental law and international law. Please view listing # 14494 on APSA E-Jobs if interested.
University of Oklahoma made an offer to Song (Harvard) for East Asia and Hayes (USC) for security studies.
Jordan Tama (of Princeton) accepted an offer for American Universtiy's US Foreign Policy position.
University of Michigan has called an Americanist and a Theorist for January interviews. Does anyone know if they made more IR invitations?
Did Lewis and Clark have an opening in there Intl Affairs dept? I could swear they did- and I would have applied- but I can't find anything in my pile of job ads I applied to. Any word if there is a job?
Lewis & clark: Developing Areas:
http://www.lclark.edu/dept/hr/fjob_develop.html
Closed 09/15, and I've heard no word on hire as yet. I have heard rumor (from last years' search) that there was disagreement on the committee, thus they made a 1 year Visiting hire. So one may presume there is an inside candidate (for good or ill).
10:11
I heard about the visiting position last year and remember a discussion on the benefits of a visiting position for an eventual tenure position (I think the debate ended 50/50 on that). Maybe something will turn up.
Lewis and Clark made an offer to Tudor, which was declined. So says the wiki...
Anybody know where C. Warren is going?
Any jobs with open deadlines still out there?
Regarding the North Texas Middle East search:
Seda Demiralp, Anne Peters, and Sean Yom all interviewed. Seda Demiralp was made an offer, but it looks like she has declined it.
Contra the Tally Board, the University of Washington has an offer out to a finalist. Source - Email from Dep't.
Clarification - The UWashington job offer is in Political Science (IR/Comp). No word on Jackson School of Int'l Studies position.
CU Boulder
Who is going to CU Boulder? Warren?
This may sound dumb, but is the U Washington position the main campus or Vancouver?
CU was in answer to the question above, "Any jobs with open deadlines still out there?"
Ah.

The big board says Western Carolina completed phone interviews. Any updates?
@ 12:23 - the Jackson School canceled its search a while back.
Also: just got an e-mail from Arizona State saying that they (Political Science) will not be making any tenure track hires this year due to budget shortfalls.
Hayes and Song accepted offers from University of Oklahoma.
I think it's Washington State at Vancouver not University of Washington. Various sites indicate an offer but who really knows? Any word on Oregon State? Deadline was Dec 15th, I believe. Also, Willamette? Forgive me if I misspelled it.
Western Carolina is conducting on-campus interviews.
Anyone know who is interviewing at Western Carolina?
Anyone know why Lewis and Clark re-advertised it's developing areas position (in Intl Affairs, not poli sci dept) when it had already had an ad out in the fall? Anyone think that's a bad sign for anyone who previously applied?
In re: Lewis & Clark, I don't have any inside information but my sense is that this means they are re-opening the search and would at least like to allow for more files to hit the pool. Given the general state of the job market, they can expect a lot more high quality applicants at this point--not that they didn't have high-quality applicants to begin with!
Re: Lewis & Clark - check earlier comments in this thread. Looks like they had an offer out that was turned down, so are reopening the search.
RE: Lewis and Clark
I wasn't sure if the earlier comment on the offer was for Poli Sci or Intl Affairs- Much like the Puget sound info doesn't differentiate between the poli sci job and the separate IPE job. Either way, I figured the L&C thing was a budget issue. But who knows? If they're hoping for a bigger pool then that would mean the earlier applicants didn't make the cut in my mind.
Any word on UT San Antonio? Interviews scheduled?
Any word on whether any of the Yale offers were accepted?
Princeton has extended an offer to Keren Yarhi Milo (UPENN ABD, Belfer)
Any word on UC Riverside? Have they made an offer yet?
In response to some queries: we have good reason to believe the Princeton rumor is true.
UC Riverside did make an offer and the person is considering it.
Keren Yarhi-Milo has an offer at Princeton (source: grad student chatter)
So who got the UC Riverside offer?
what is happening at U of Toronto? According to the board, one person seems to have rejected an offer and another person seems to have accepted elsewhere.
Who got the Columbia (SIPA) offer?
Any news on Ohio Northern's search?
i heard someone from MIT got the Columbia/SIPA job but don't know who.
todd hall has confirmed at U of Toronto.

The Wiki has Oregon State in the 'interviews scheduled' section. Any more info than that? The wiki is kind of hard to trust.
Info on Willamette is also useful (Oregon theme here).
IR job opening at Oxford - Christ Church College:

CT09002_FPS_FINAL.pdf
Both Standford and Iowa State have canceled their searches.
Is that supposed to read "Stanford?" I applied for that job and did not receive notification of its closure.
RE Oregon State, are you asking for info on whether they actually are conducting interviews or whether they made a decision?
I think I posted this in the wrong place before...
The International Relations Department at Boston University has reopened its search for an IR position with an emphasis on negotiation. (One change: It is no longer "open rank," but rather tenure-track assistant professor.) BU has been hiring this year, so this is a real job! Please circulate to everyone who might be a good fit.
The Department of International Relations at Boston University invites applications for a position at the rank of assistant professor from International Relations specialists able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international negotiation. Substantive area of expertise is open and may include conflict resolution, trade, finance, and the environment, among others. Ph.D. must be completed by the time of appointment.
I also got a letter from Stanford that essentially says the line is frozen. It was mailed Jan 16.
I got the Stanford letter yesterday.
Anyone have any information about the searches at Colorado or Georgia State?
I second the request on Colorado and Georgia State. Also, if anybody has any info on UT, San Antonio, it would be much appreciated.
Michigan is interviewing Bernd Beber and Andrew Kerner.
To !:15 on 1/23...where is the evidence in the job posting that this BU asst. prof job is Tenure Track?? Would love to know if you have confirmation that it is a tenure track posting or if you are just assuming it is b/c the language in the ad itself does not mention anything about tenure track.
What's going on with the 5 or so Yale offers?
RE Oregon State, I was curious if the interview rumour was true (it's listed as R on the Tally Board last I checked). If it is then if an offer has been extended that would be interesting information as well.
The Oregon State interview rumor is true. I don't know if they've made an offer or not yet. Source: Friend of candidate
Re OSU, no offer yet.
